The System
Our system has evolved around two fundamental truths. What has emerged takes on a prismatic meaning depending on where you stand.
1. Storytelling is the foundation of human civilization.
Shared narratives, myths and laws allowed early humans to cooperate in groups far larger than family or tribe. Stories created common trust, built social order and preserved cultural identity long before cities or written records existed.
That isn't likely to change.
2. Every civilization leaves artifacts.
Artifacts are an extension of storytelling. We have always used the technologies of our time to turn memory, ideas and experience into things that might survive us; from pigment and clay to writing, print, photography, film and everything that followed.
To leave a mark for the future.
And digital files vanish.
Artificial intelligence has arrived as another tool, spreading like Greek fire. With it comes extraordinary abundance and a new set of questions around authorship, originality, preservation and what can survive.
So we began asking:
How can we help build infrastructure that gives artists another route through the existing art world?
And, more practically:
How do you create a physical artwork from a digital original and preserve the relationship between artist, idea, image, edition and object?
That question became The System.
Why This Matters
Computational art begins with an unusual problem: the original may be infinitely reproducible.
Visual platforms and markets are increasingly flooded with AI imagery; seasonal waves arriving as new models, methods and forms emerge and wash over the public.
A visual image can now be copied, altered and reproduced almost instantly. Compare that with more physically laborious practices such as pottery, traditional printmaking or letterpress, where material and time impose their own friction.
But the human remains behind all of them.
The same is true of human-directed generative art. The work is in the ideation, contemplation, iteration, rejection, curation, returning when creativity strikes... and knowing when to stop, the end of the line.
The System: Curation as Creation
We offer curated, human-directed generative art as limited-edition fine art prints.
1. Curated, Not Automated
The human curation board evaluates each batch, verifies artists and selects what survives the standard. Most submissions don't.
2. The Rebel Triple-Layer Registry
Every released Rebel artwork is recorded across three distinct layers: digital, decentralized and physical.
Each layer does a different job. Together they create redundancy between the artwork, its Master Image, its declared edition and the physical object.
Layer 1: Fingerprint Image
Each artwork series receives a cryptographic fingerprint recorded on Ethereum together with essential provenance information.
A deliberately minimal Fingerprint Image is embedded directly on-chain through the Rebel registry contract, creating a timestamped record independent of Rebel's own database.
Layer 2: Master Image
The full-resolution Master Image is preserved separately using the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS), with its identity linked back to the registered fingerprint and mirrored within the Rebel registry.
Distributed records are used to establish which artwork belongs to which record and to preserve provenance over the long term.
Layer 3: Artifact
Each physical edition is accompanied by a hand-finished Certificate of Authenticity (COA) on museum-grade paper.
A serialized Hanko hologram is applied to the certificate and paired with its matching twin on the artwork. Both share the same Hologram Serial Number.
The certificate also carries a unique COA Code and our kaiju brass embossed seal, pressed by hand in Singapore.
Together, these elements connect the physical artwork back to its Rebel Archive record.
3. Privacy & Security
Rebel separates public artwork records from private ownership and authentication data. The private registry operates on enterprise-grade serverless infrastructure with end-to-end encryption.
Internal systems operate through secure APIs with tightly controlled access. Registry data is not exposed to advertising networks, analytics platforms or external integrations.
Financial transactions are separated from registry records and handled through PCI DSS-compliant payment infrastructure.
4. Verification
Two interfaces. Different purposes. The machinery stays mostly underneath.
Public Terminal
Anyone can confirm that a Rebel artwork has entered the Archive.
- View the on-chain Fingerprint Image and series metadata.
- Scan the QR code for direct transaction verification.
- Verify provenance without specialist technical knowledge.
Private Terminal
Owners can verify the relationship between their physical artwork, COA and private Rebel record.
- The Hologram Serial Number identifies the matched hologram pair.
- The COA Code provides a second private authentication credential.
- Entering both allows the owner to verify the physical edition against the private registry.

5. Built to Outlive Us
Nothing is permanent. But we have made disappearance harder.
So we record different parts of the artwork's history in different places, using different technologies, for different purposes.
The digital fingerprint establishes the record. The Master preserves the image. The Certificate connects that record to a physical object.
If Rebel Archive disappeared tomorrow, the ambition is that enough of the record would remain for someone else to reconstruct what happened. We designed it so that the artwork should not need us in order to have a history.
